FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000: MINISTRY OF DEFENCE POLICE: MDP
SENIOR OFFICERS ALCOHOL AND DRUG TESTING.
We refer to your email dated 17 November 2019 to the Ministry of Defence Police which
was acknowledged on the 18 November 2019.
We are treating your email as a request for information in accordance with the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 (FOIA 2000).
In your email you requested the following information:
“1. Can I requested how many officers in the MDP are of the rank of Inspector and
above.
2. Can I request how many of these ranks have been tested for alcohol and drugs
since the inception of the policy.
3. Can I request what percentage of officers tested were below the rank of inspector
and what percentage were above.”
A search for information has now been completed by the Ministry of Defence Police and I
can confirm that we do hold information in scope of your request.
1. The MDP currently has a total of 139 officers of the rank of Inspector and above
2. Since drug and alcohol testing was introduced by the MDP in February 2011 a total of
130 tests have been carried out on officers in the rank of Inspector and above.
3. Since drug and alcohol testing was introduced by the MDP in February 2011, 94% of the
total number of tests conducted were on officers in ranks below Inspector. 6% of the tests
conducted were on officers in the rank of Inspector and above.
