Dear Ms Jiang,
Your request was received on 24 October 2019 and I am dealing with it under the terms of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 (‘the Act’).
I would like to request, under the Freedom of Information Act, the following figures for BA
Economics (L100), for the years of 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
(1) the number of Chinese applicants who applied to Emmanuel College
(2) the number of offers given to applicants from (1)
(3) ECAA scores (section 1&2) and interview scores of the Chinese offer holders who applied to
(4) if possible, the number of Chinese applicants who applied to Emmanuel College in 2020
Over the five requested application cycles, 20 Chinese applicants applied to Emmanuel College for
Economics. Of these 4 were given offers.
The University has not supplied further details because, due to the small numbers, it believes that
individuals could be identified as a result. In presenting the information in this way, the University is
engaging the exemption at section 40(3A)(a) of the Act because its release would breach the first data
protection principle (the fair, lawful and transparent processing of personal data) as set out in the
General Data Protection Regulation. This part of section 40 confers absolute exemption under the Act.

number above. The University would normally expect to receive your request for an internal review
within 40 working days of the date of this letter and reserves the right not to review a decision where
