Subject: RE: Bonnybridge Railway Station

Thanks Irene.

I have attached the Board report and copied (below) an extract of the minutes.

A7.

STAG APPRAISALS FOR RAILWAY STATIONS

The Board considered a report by Trond Haugen, Adviser to SEStran outlining the current position in respect of requests received for transport studies into the provision of new rail stations in the SEStran area.  Councillor William Buchanan requested an addition to the recommendations in regard to feasibility studies on electrification at Bonnybridge and Grangemouth Stations.

Decision

The Board:-

(i)         noted the report;

(ii)        agreed the promotion of proposed new rail stations in accordance with Section 2 of the report; and

(iii)       instructed the Partnership Director to liaise with the Scottish Government to have the feasibility of railway stations at both Bonnybridge and Grangemouth included as part of the electrification studies and to report back to the Board on the outcome of any discussions or decisions.

I can further advise that SEStran has not agreed to any part funding of a STAG study for Grangemouth and the budget position this year has affected the ability of SEStran to undertake any such studies for any new station.

I trust this clarifies the position.

Kind regards,

Trond Haugen

Thank you for your email to Michael dated 9 April.

Michael has asked for a specific response as to what was the outcome of the SEStran Board meeting on 12th February 2010 which was to consider whether to invest in developing a STAG case for Bonnybridge station as part of a draft projects budget for 2010/11 ( Alex Macaulay's letter to Michael dated 11 December 2009 refers) He has also asked why, having agreed to part fund the Grangemouth STAG, SEStran is not funding it now.

Kind regards
Irene Coleman
