Questions and Responses
Please could you let me know
a) What (if any) specialist services you provide for adults and/or children with learning
disabilities
On the acute site we have a full time learning disability acute liaison team that supports
clinical areas in the application of reasonable adjustments
This team accepts referrals direct from families and carers as well as community and
acute practitioners and multi- agency professionals
The hospital currently employs 8 learning disability nurses in total. Those employed within
acute areas are rostered into the team for 2 shifts a month. This supports their LD field
expertise whilst also supporting the team to provide a 52 week service.
The team on a day to day basis can provide for example:-
Flagging/alert onto hospital patient records
Access to areas through bespoke pathways agreed with the child/young
person/family/carers and clinical areas
Pre-visit preparation including desensitisation, liaison between departments or professions
e.g. schools
Direct point of contact for families, pre and post visit to support application of reasonable
adjustments
Learning disability and autism spectral condition (ASC) awareness training across site
(also bespoke to area)
Co-ordination and support to learning disability champions (65 across site)
b) The structure of any specialist learning disability teams including the number of
WTE staff and the professional qualifications of staff by job role
The acute liaison team is comprised of
1 Consultant Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse (RNLD) (P/T)
1Acute liaison nurse RNLD (F/T)
1 Play specialist - registered play specialist qualification (P/T)
1 Administrator (P/T)
