Dear Ms Esslemont
Re: Freedom of Information request – 54316
Thank you for your e-mail of 27 June 2019, in which you ask for the number of individuals
with negative Conclusive Grounds decisions who have at any point been held in
immigration detention during 2017 and 2018.
Your request has been handled as a request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000. We are now in a position to provide a full reply to your request.
The data you have requested is set out in Annex A attached. The data has not been
assured to the standard of Official Statistics.
If you are dissatisfied with this response you may request an independent internal review
of our handling of your request by submitting a complaint within two months to
xxxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx.xxx.xxx.xx, quoting reference 54316. If you ask for an internal
review, it would be helpful if you could say why you are dissatisfied with the response.
As part of any internal review the Department's handling of your information request would
be reassessed by staff who were not involved in providing you with this response. If you
were to remain dissatisfied after an internal review, you would have a right of complaint to
the Information Commissioner as established by section 50 of the FOIA.
Yours sincerely

Notes
1 These statistics have been taken from a live operational database. As such, numbers may change as information on that system is updated.
2 Data extracted on 5th-Jul-2019
3 Table 1 shows individuals who were in detention between 1st-Jan-2017 and 31st-Dec-2018, who received a negative CG decision before, during or after detention.
4 Table 1 shows individuals who were in detention at any time during the requested period. Therefore, detention may start and/or end outside of the period.
5 Where an individual has multiple detention periods within a year, then only one instance has been counted. If a period of detention crosses multiple periods, the figures for the individual will appear in multiple years.
6 Trafficking data has been restricted up to 31st-Mar-2019 only. Therefore a negative CG decision may have occurred a significant period of time before the detention period.
7 Please note that these figures do not show the number of Potential Victims of Trafficking that have been held in detention, as these figures may include those who were found to be 'not trafficked' before entering detention,
and/or individuals where the event(s) which instigated the NRM referral occurred subsequent to their release
8 Data shows individuals held at Immigration Removal Centres, Short Term Holding Facilities and HMPs under Immigration powers
