same dates. You have requested the following information:
• How many mainstream primary schools are in England, Wales, Scotland and
Ireland (both maintained and independent)?
• How many special schools are in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland (both
maintained and independent; and primary and secondary schools)?
Summary of response
We hold the information you have requested in relation to schools in England and
have provided this to you within this letter. We do not hold any information on
numbers of schools in Wales, Scotland or Ireland.
The Freedom of Information Act
We have dealt with your request in accordance with the Freedom of Information
(FOI) Act 2000.
The first requirement of the Act is that we should confirm whether or not we hold
information of the description set out in your request. I can confirm that we hold the
number of primary schools and special schools in England, but not in Wales, Scotland
or Ireland as we only inspect schools in England. The contact details for the agencies
that inspect in those parts of the United Kingdom are as follows:
