Subject: RE: Temp path closures at HCPNR
Dear All
Whilst I appreciate that the Borough Council is in the process of obtaining expert opinion on the situation, visual
inspection today (photos attached) was sufficient to indicate that the paths at Ecclesbourne Glen are still very much in
an unstable condition.
The most recent slippage would seem to rule out any notion of reinstating access to any of the paths in the immediate
term. I am therefore proposing extension of the current closures as follows.
I intend to amalgamate the existing short term emergency closures (paths 364a/377/376/394) with the current long
term order for footpath 379a which runs until May 16th. The emergency closures for the other paths will be extended
until that date, after which a single Order closing all of those paths will run for a further six months.
Options for fencing improvements for the key points of access were previously discussed. That included post and rail
fencing on path 379a as a more persuasive and 'in-keeping' alternative to the existing herrace fence.
It seems to me that the scale of the issue is no less severe now on the other paths and given that the movement is
quite obviously still very active I am minded to suggest revising the proposal to simply replacing all existing barriers
and fencing with well secured chestnut pale fencing. I would welcome approval for this. We would obviously be
happy to assist with supply and installation.
The attached emergency extension notices for footpath 364a will need to be posted this weekend. I am happy to do
so, but
or
if you are likely to be in the area and can post them that would be much appreciated.
Thanks and best regards
