Dear Mr Rukin
Freedom of Information Act Request - F0017135
Thank you for your request for information which we received on 16 February
2019. Your request has been dealt with under the terms of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.
You asked for the following information:-
Over recent months various ministers and HS2 Ltd employees have claimed
that HS2 is 'supporting 7000 jobs'
Could you please explain exactly what this means?
What crtiteria do you use to determine whether or not a job is being
'supported' by HS2?
How was the number '7000' determined? Please show your working.
The 7000 jobs figure came from numbers submitted to HS2 Ltd’s supply
chain, plus those employed by HS2 directly. These figures have since been
updated. On Jan 31, 2019, HS2 directly employed 1629 People as
employees / via an Agency, and had 764 employed as contractors.
The figure for those employed in the Supply Chain was 6034. HS2 Ltd do not
break down the figures any further than how many are employed.
