Thank you for your e-mail of 17 December to the Information Rights Team in which you 
requested, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA or Act), the following 
information about the number of British Citizens who were arrested in Tenerife. 
 
 “Please can you supply me with the number of British citizens arrested in Teneriffe in 2009” 
 
l can confirm that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) holds information relevant to 
your request. 
 
The FCO was notified that 178 British Citizens were arrested in Tenerife in 2009. The data 
has been taken from COMPASS, our global assistance database. Please note that this 
figure represents only the cases that were reported to our Consulate in Santa Cruz and 
located in our search of the database.  
 
I hope you are satisfied with this reply.  If you have any queries about this letter, or are 
unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and you wish to make 
a complaint or if you would like a review of our decision, please write to the Information
