Information Request - 4041766 - Poole Bridge, Wettenhall Road, Poole - Bridge Maintenance etc 
 
I am responding to your request for information, which has been considered under the Environmental 
Information Regulations 2004 (EIR) and logged as case 4041766. 
 
Your request is as follows:
 
Does the bridge have a weight restriction imposed on it? 
If not can you tell me why not? 
The number of repairs that this bridge has had on it during the past 20 years; 
A break down of the costs for the above stated; 
The total length of time the road has been closed (Wettenhall Road) whilst under repair ( a 

 
breakdown per incident would be useful); 
An explanation for the reasons for the repairs to the bridge eg. damage by motorised vehicles, routine 
maintenance, accident etc. 
I would like to go from 1st April 1998, due to the age of the bridge, but from 1st April 2009 would 
suffice.

 
I can confirm that Cheshire East Council holds some of the information you have requested. I have 
detailed below the information that is held.
 
Q1. Does the bridge have a weight restriction imposed on it?
A1. There are no restrictions currently imposed on the bridge in question.
If not can you tell me why not?
 


The bridge was assessed in February 1999 and was considered be able to withstand 40/44 tonnes, which 
is the UK limit.  Any vehicles over this limit are classed as 'abnormal loads'.
Q2. The number of repairs that this bridge has had on it during the past 20 years;
A2.  From the available records the bridge has been repaired on 3 occasions over the past 20 years.
Please note that older information pre-dating the formation of Cheshire East Council is held in the County 
Records Office at Chester.

A4.  Total length of time road has been closed was 68 days:

17th September 1999 to 15th October 1999  - 29 days

28th May 2008 to 3rd June 2008 - 7 days

2nd June 2014 to 4th December 2014 - 32 days
Q5.  An explanation for the reasons for the repairs to the bridge eg. damage by motorised 
vehicles, routine maintenance, accident etc.

A5. Explanation for the repairs/closures: 

17th September 1999 to 15th October 1999 - river training works (Routine maintenance)

28th May 2008 to 3rd June 2008 - road traffic collision (corner damage)

2nd June 2014 to 4th December 2014 - road traffic collision (major damage)
 
I am unable to provide you with some of the breakdown costs because this information pre-dates the 
formation of Cheshire East Council. Therefore regulation 12(4)(a) applies to your request. Regulation 
12(4)(a) provides an exception to the duty to disclose information when information is not held.
