information from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ):
Dear Ministry of Justice, this request relates to Parliamentary Question 178235 by John
Hayes MP on "Capital Punishment: Crimes of Violence", submitted on 11 October 2018 and
answered by Edward Argar MP for the Ministry on 19 October 2018. Please could you
disclose all records you hold relating to this parliamentary question (and its response...).
Your request has been handled under the FOIA.
The MoJ does not hold any information in the scope of your request. This is because the
response to the parliamentary question conveyed long-established Government policy in this
area, and there was no need to generate information in order to produce the response.
The FOIA does not oblige a public authority to create information to answer a request if the
requested information is not held. The duty is to only provide the recorded information held.
