Dear Yee Hung Lim,
Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA)
Thank you for your request, which was received on 27 October, for the following information:
Could you please provide me, under the FOI act, data on percentile points of the income
distribution specifically for London for the most recent tax year available?
I am aware that this data is available for tax years 2014-2015 but I would like to receive
more recent data just for individuals residing in Greater London.
We can confirm that HMRC holds information that falls within scope of your request and the
information requested is presented in the Excel file accompanying this letter.
This information has been compiled from HMRC’s Survey of Personal Incomes (SPI) for
2015-16, which is the latest tax year available. The SPI is a sample of around 750,000
individuals from HMRC’s Pay As You Earn, Self Assessment and Claims systems, and
grossed to reflect the full UK taxpayer population.
The table covers London, which is one of the nine Regions of England. Individuals are
allocated to Regions according to their residential address. The percentile points are
presented in pounds and rounded to three significant figures.
For more information about the SPI, please refer to the following Personal Incomes Statistics

emailing
xxx.xxxxxx@xxxx.xxx.xxx.xx, or by writing to the address at the top right-hand side
of this letter.
Information is available in large print, audio and Braille formats.

If you are not content with the outcome of an internal review, you can make a complaint to
the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Instructions about this process are available at
