Dear Mr Martin
Freedom of Information Request
Further to your Freedom of Information Request dated 30 July 2018
1. Currently which of the above interventions do you not fund?
Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group have a list of
treatments/procedures that are either subject to access criteria or are not routinely
funded. Please see attached a copy of this list (Referral and Treatment Criteria).
Please note – the CCG does not hold criteria for snoring surgery in the absence of
OSA or arthroscopic SAD for subacromial pain)
2. Of the above category 1 and 2 interventions, which of these do
providers currently have to apply for funding approval prior to
performing the intervention?
As above, Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Groups have a list of
treatments/procedures that are either subject to access criteria or are not routinely
funded. Please see attached.
3. Of the interventions which require funding approval, how many
applications have been accepted and how many rejected over the last
year, broken down for each intervention?
From June 2018 to July 2018 the attached applications have been managed by the
Kent and Medway CCG Individual Funding Request (IFR Team). However, as per
the attached (attachment 1) for some procedures, which have access criteria,
referrers are permitted to proceed with treatment without prior approval being
needed. The figures held by the IFR team therefore only reflect those where
approval has been sought. Please see attachment (2)
4. What do you estimate your annual costs are in terms of the
administration of the system of applying for funding approval
including appeals? (approximately how many staff hours are invested in
this and what is the cost of these staff hours and the resources
required to carry out this work)
£74,613.96 per annum – this is the annual budget NHS Dartford Gravesham and
Swanley Clinical Commissioning Group pay to the Commissioning Support Unit to
provide the IFR function. In terms of the additional detail you have requested re staff
hours, the CCG is unable to provide this information. This is due to the IFR team
covering a number of clinical commissioning groups, including Kent and Medway,
and some in London, so the CCG is unable to determine which proportion of their
time is dedicated to NHS Dartford Gravesham and Swanley Clinical Commissioning
group.
Please note, that the supply of information in response to a FOI request does not
confer an automatic right to re-use the information. Under UK copyright law you can
