Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 20th May 2018 which was received by us
on 21st May 2018. Your request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act and is
detailed below in italics with our response in bold.

Please send me the policy, documents, guidance, training material detailing the duties and
responsibilities of recruited or agency Adult social works, including covering involvement in
managing a clients welfare, management of needs including physical health, finances like benefits
and home environment.
Our Response
The Freedom of Information Team has been provided with the following information in response to
your recent request on behalf of Northamptonshire County Council (NCC).
Please see attached and below information held by NCC matching the criteria and
parameters of your request.
Any practitioner using the job title of “social worker” must be a registered member of
Health & Care Professionals Council (HCPC). The HCPC is a regulator set up to protect the
public and currently has 16 professions, one of which is social work. The HCPC‘s ten
standards of conduct, performance and ethics is the framework that all social workers must
adhere to. All registrants are responsible for making sure that they are familiar with the
standards and continue to meet them (www.hcpc-uk.org).
With regards to legislative frameworks, the expectation would be for the same as any other
member of adult social care staff in that practitioners are aware of, and carry out duties, in

line with the principals of the appropriate Act’s. https://www.legislation.gov.uk has links to
specific Acts and Code of practice (such as Care Act (2014); Mental Capacity Act (2005);
Mental Health Act (1983)). Underpinning all legislation is the Human Rights Act.
There would be an expectation that a registered social worker employed by NASS was
aware of, and adhered to, NASS’ policies and procedures.
