Dear Mr Davie
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request – 171107005
Thank you for your request dated 7 November 2017 in which you asked for the following
information from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ):
What date was the contract with 1/ DHL 2/ Interserve for the management of workshops at HMP
Berwyn? What industries are 1/ DHL 2/ Interserve - offering.
Your request has been handled under the FOIA.
I can confirm that the MoJ holds the information that you have requested and I have
provided it below.
DHL Contract – The DHL service at HMP Berwyn falls under the current National contract.
A HMPPS requirement for one service specification covering all establishments was
put out for tender in 2008. Various service providers submitted tenders deliver the
new service specification.
August 2008 DHL/Booker was awarded the contract to supply goods and services to
HMPPS across all establishments.
The contract was a new service specification not a direct replacement for the
previous service. All providers who were potentially awarded the contract would
have been required to deliver the new service specification.
The first sites went live with the new canteen service from DHL/Booker in November
2008
The provision of the fully managed service is ultimately the responsibility of DHL.
However, the supply of all products on the National Product List and the associated
administration is subcontracted to Booker Group. Whilst both companies work
closely to ensure a seamless approach. DHL will overall manage the contract,
leading initiatives and providing impetus behind the operation. Booker will procure
the range and lead on decisions affecting product and supply.
DHL Service Provision:
Warehouse and picking facility for the men’s canteen orders.
Interserve Contract - The contract for Provision of Employment Positions at HMP Berwyn
was awarded to Interserve and contract signature was achieved 31/08/17.
Interserve Service Provision:
Interserve are working with five sub-contractors to provide service in line with the contract:
