Information Policy & Compliance
Mr A Willmore
19 December 2017
Dear Mr Wilmore Freedom of Information Request - RFI20171742
Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) received on 28th
November 2017, seeking the following information: The link you kindly provided does supply me with some of the information I required. However, the link does not go
in to the detail of whether personal and non-BBC social media accounts can receive major updates that are not
relevant to the owner's BBC activities and are made while the owner is "at work" doing their BBC job. The last
sentence of my original request ("Please make particular reference to social media content that is not connected to
their BBC work and advertising a non-BBC product for personal gain during such updates.") covers this and I would
be grateful to receive more specific information in this regard.
In response to your request we have provided you with al the relevant policies and there is nothing further
that we can provide regarding the use of social media. However in reference to the ‘at work’ in your
request the BBC has multiple conditions of service that determine working patterns and breaks.
Furthermore the BBC also embraces flexible working. These policies can be found in the fol owing location. http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/foi/classes/policies_procedures/conditions_of_service_policy.pdf#zoom=100
Please note that, as set out in section 6(1)(b)(i ) of the FOI Act, our subsidiaries (including BBC Studios &
Post Production Ltd, UKTV, BBC Global News Ltd and BBC Worldwide Ltd), as well as the charities BBC
Media Action and BBC Children in Need, are not subject to the Act, therefore information for their
personnel is not included in the figures quoted above.
If you are not satisfied that we have complied with the Act in responding to your request, you have the
right to an internal review by a BBC senior manager or legal adviser. Please contact us at the address
above, explaining what you would like us to review and including your reference number. If you are not
satisfied with the internal review, you can appeal to the Information Commissioner. The contact details are:
Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF, Tel: 0303
