I would like to request information pertaining to any trials your FRS has undertaken as
part of the NJC workstreams as set out below.
1. Emergency Medical Response
2. Multi Agency Response
3. Environmental Challenges
4. Youth and Social Engagement
5. Inspection & Enforcement
I would be grateful if you will provide answers to the following questions
1. Please state which of the above (if any) has your FRS undertaken in trials
2. Please state the start and end dates of each trial
3. Please state the estimated numbers of staff involved
4. Please state which sites were involved (ie fire stations)
5. Please provide copies of any significant operational lessons learned
6. Please provide copies of clinical outcomes achieved
7. Please explain what funding was used to undertake the trials
8. Please explain what if any income was raised as a result of the trials
9. Please provide information regarding any injuries or near misses that were recorded
as a result of the work undertaken.
10. What specific additional training was given as part of the workstream trial.
Emergency Medical Response (EMR):

Procedural response to unexplained deaths in children (PRUDIC)
Welfare support, soft skills training and dealing with bereaved family
members.
Utilisation of light weight fire kit over structural fire kit for responding
Clarification on Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) procedures and when not to
commence CPR.

7. Additional training was provided by paramedic instructors, this was funded by the
Wales Ambulance Service Trust.
Salaries for ‘On Call’ fire fighters to attend additional training were funded by
SWFRS.
No additional staffing costs for trial
Trauma equipment, consumables and Defibrillators provided by Wales
Ambulance Service Trust.

10. What specific additional training was given as part of the workstream trial: 2 full
days expert training delivered by Welsh Ambulance Service, in addition to 4 full
days Immediate Emergency Care Course attended by all SWFRS FRS personnel,
including those not involved in the trial.
Multi Agency Response
1. None, SWFRS did not take part in trials relating to Multi-Agency response.

Environmental Challenges
1. None. Fire & Rescue Services in Wales are in a different position to other Fire &
Rescue Services in the UK in that Welsh Government has enacted legislation
making it a statutory duty to respond too many of the environmental challenges
cited above and covered in the trials. The Service has therefore already equipped,
trained and resourced staff to deal with such incidents and has appropriate
policies and procedures in place to deal with these.

1. None, SWFRS deliver a wide range of Youth and Social Engagement activities as
core business.

1. None, SWFRS have a Business Fire Safety Dept. which carry out Fire Safety
Inspections as detailed in the Fire Safety Order as core business.
