Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act (‘the Act’) of 18th September
2017, asking:
I understand ‘Fawlty Towers’ has been produced and performed for the stage. Has the BBC or
BBC Worldwide granted a licence to Mr John Cleese or Mr Phil McIntyre, or any other third party
to use the BBC’s ‘FAWLTY TOWERS’ trademark?
Response
We have found no record of any licenses granted by the BBC to any third parties to use the BBC’s
FAWLTY TOWERS trade mark.
Please note that as a commercial subsidiary of the BBC, BBC Worldwide is not subject to the
Freedom of Information Act by virtue of section 6(1)(b)(i ).
