Dear Mr. Francis,
Freedom of Information Act request
Thank you for your e-mail of the 16th September 2016 in which you ask for the release of the
fol owing information in relation to the Garden Bridge:
Please make public all correspondence (written and by email) from 5th May 2016 to
date between the GLA/Mayor's office and the Garden Bridge Trust, and between the
GLA/Mayor's office and TfL concerning the Garden Bridge.
Please also make public full details of all financial information about the Garden Bridge
project that may have been provided together with this correspondence.
Your request is being handled as a request for information under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000. We are considering your request at this time.
Although the Act carries a presumption in favour of disclosure, it provides exemptions which
may be used to withhold information in specified circumstances. Some of these exemptions,
referred to as ‘qualified exemptions’, are subject to a public interest test. This test is used to
balance the public interest in disclosure against the public interest in favour of withholding the
information. The Act al ows us to exceed the 20 working day response target where we need to
consider the public interest test ful y.
Some of the information which you have requested is being considered under the exemption
provisions under section 43(2) of the Act, which relate to information that would, or would be
likely to, prejudice the commercial interests of any party.
This is a qualified exemption provision and, in order to fully consider the balance of the public
interest arguments both in favour or disclosure and those in favour of withholding the
information covered by this exemption, we need to extend the 20 working day response period.
Therefore, in accordance with our obligations under section 17(2) of the Act, I write to you
today to advise you that we now aim to provide you with our response to your request by the
11th November 2016.
If you have any questions about the handling of your information request then please do not
hesitate to contact me quoting the reference at the top of this letter.
