Dear Mr Magee
Information request
Reference number: FOI2016/00830
Thank you for your email of 24th July 2016. You requested the following information:
‘Can you tell me how much money your corporation has received from the paid for
female and male toilets at King's Cross station in your fiscal 2014-2105?’
I have processed your request under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act
2000 (FOIA).
I confirm that we hold the information that you have requested. However, under
section 21 of the FOIA, we are not required to provide information in response to a
request if it is reasonably accessible to you by other means. The information you
requested is already available through our Transparency Portal at:
http://www.networkrail.co.uk/transparency/datasets/ 1.
Under section 16 of the FOIA we have a responsibility to provide advice and
assistance to requestors so far as it is reasonable for us to do so. With this in mind I
thought it might be useful to raise the following points:
• The figure in question refers only to our gross income – our net income once
the cost of staffing, cleaning and maintenance has been taken into account is
likely to be considerably less. By way of comparison in 2012/13 33.6% of the
gross income received for the Kings Cross toilets was spent on the staffing,
cleaning and maintenance of the facilities.
• Any profits made from our toilets are reinvested into our station facilities.
• Your request makes reference to ‘female and male toilets’ but does not ask
for a breakdown of the cost on this basis. We think providing the overall figure
is the most natural interpretation of your request, if, however, you would like to
see a breakdown between female and male toilets please write back to us
and we will treat this as a fresh request. Please note we do not at this stage

know whether we hold this information and, as with any other request, cannot
guarantee that we will be able to provide any information in advance of
receiving the request.
I hope the information provided proves useful, if you have any enquiries about this
response, please contact me in the first instance at
