We are conducting a project on service provision for men with Erectile Dysfunction, with the
overarching aim of helping to improve services for men across England, Scotland, Wales
and Northern Ireland.  We would be grateful if you could answer the following questions
promptly to help us with our analysis of service provision in your area.  The questions are as
follows:

1. Does your Health board provide an erectile dysfunction clinic and can you provide
the total number and addresses of all NHS erectile dysfunction clinics within your
Healthboard? If you do not know who should we ask?

number and addresses of all NHS psychosexual clinics within your Healthboard? If
you do not know who should we ask?

Yes, patients are referred to the single point of access for Mental Health Services.
For more information about this service please redirect your request to Cheshire & Wirral

xxx@xxx.xxx.xx, who will be able to assist with your enquiry.

3. Does your Health board provide counselling and sex therapy services and can you
provide the details of any NHS counselling services and sex therapy services that
treat men with erectile dysfunction within your Healthboard? If you do not know who
should we ask?

Yes, following completion of an Individual Funding Request, patients can be referred to the
Psychosexual Therapy Service in Macclesfield via Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS
Foundation Trust.

An individual funding request is a request for treatment that is not normally available on the
NHS, or one which the NHS will only pay for under certain circumstances.
For example, this may be for a very new treatment or drug or exceptional reasons why a
treatment should be available to you as an individual.  An individual funding request should
be made by a GP, Consultant or Healthcare Practitioner, on behalf of the patient, to the
West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

4. Does your Health board provide PDE5-I and if so which one?

We predominantly provide Sidenafil and Tadalafil.

5. Does your Health board prescribe ‘tadalafil (Cialis)’ tablets for men who experience
erectile dysfunction as a result of prostate cancer treatment?

Yes.

6. At what dose are the ‘tadalafil (Cialis)’ tablets prescribed?

Patient preference is taken into consideration as daily 5mg, 10mg or 20mg once weekly
doses are available.  Some patients prefer a lower dose depending on the benefits/side
effects profile.

Penile prostheses for erectile dysfunction are not routinely commissioned.  In rare
circumstances, funding will be available for men who have failed to respond to the British
Society for Sexual Medicine guidelines first and second line recommended treatments and who
