Dear Ms Ball

Thank you for your email. I do not think that the omission of 'first floor' on the firm's website would be a serious matter of regulatory concern, however thank you for the information and we will make sure our colleagues in our supervision department, who are responsible for monitoring risks within firms, are made aware, and who will take action if it is considered necessary and appropriate.

Yours sincerely

Subject: RE: SRA Response to your complaint

Dear ComplaintsTeam,

It is very interesting to note that J E Baring & Co website has very recently added the following SRA (ID: 46559) details, but are still showing a different version of their address to that listed on the SRA register ( without the addition of " First Floor" - also the struck -off previous limited dormant company address) is the current address showing reflecting the non-limited company ?

Can you please explain why there is a variation in the address contained on the SRA website ?

Yours sincerely,

Lin Ball

Dear Ms Ball

Thank you for your email of 29 April and 3 May, and I am sorry we did not
respond on Tuesday.

In terms of not providing information about complaints we have received
about the firm, that is our current policy position for reasons explained
by Ms Squire, however our policy is under review at this time. We
recognise the importance of transparency and have to consider carefully
what information would be most useful to members of the public in order to
have an accurate picture of the regulated firm. As I said we are working
through these issues at this time with a view to publishing more
information than we do currently.

With regard to your other question the firm is regulated by us and we do
therefore regulate the work it has advertised and the firm is required to
adhere to our code of conduct when practising. Since November 2015 we no
longer regulate solicitors who act as insolvency practitioners i.e. if an
individual wanted to be an official office holder in insolvency and a
trustee in bankcruptcy they would would need to be regulated by another
regulator. There will be certain legal work surrounding insolvency, such
as issuing bankcruptcy petitions, for which you do not need to be an
official office holder, this litigation would be permissable under our
rules and we would therefore regulate that solicitor and our rules of
conduct would apply.

I hope this is of assistance.

Yours sincerely
