Dear Mr Mantle
FOI 16-006
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION – Information relating cold war sites
Thank you for your request for information. As Museum Secretary for
Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales, I am responsible for responding
to your request for information.
I refer to your email of 09 February, in which you asked for the following
information:
Has your department consider creation of a museum using any of the
cold war sites, for civil defence, within Cardiff or any other location in
Wales?
RESPONSE
Our response is in two parts as there are two ways in which Amgueddfa
Cymru (‘the Museum’) could acquire sites of the nature you describe. We
have defined ‘your department’ to mean the Museum:
1. The Museum
actively seeks to acquire specific items to add to the
collections. This method of acquisition directly addresses your
Freedom of Information request.
Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 sets out the terms
under which we might refuse a request. This is on the basis that
‘deciding whether [we] hold the information would mean [we] exceed
the cost limit, for example, because it would require an extensive
search in a number of locations’. This is the case here and therefore
this letter acts as a Refusal Notice.
2. The Museum can also
be offered sites / buildings / items for the
collections. I confirm that the Museum has not been offered a cold war
site, for civil defence, within Cardiff or any other location in Wales.

Information correctly or have not followed the relevant laws, please contact
me to request a first-stage review. If, after that, you are still not satisfied you
