Dear S Smith

Thank you for your request for information.

Elected Members must Register and Declare an interest as a Freemason if their membership includes membership of the charitable arm of what would otherwise be a non-charitable association, i.e. the Grand Charity, unless they have opted out of such membership.

The register of interests for each of the 84 county councillors (this includes any employment or business) is already accessible to you via our website.  http://www.kent.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/councillors/Councillor-Listing.htm?Party=All. Please click on each councillor's name to access this also details of committee membership, community leadership, party related transactions and annual report.  Members have to comply with the Members Code of Conduct. This is also on our website http://www.kent.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/about-the-council/contact-us/councillor-complaints.htm.

I hope this satisfies your request. If you have a query with the information provided, please contact me on 01622 221652. However, if you are unhappy with this response, and believe KCC has not complied with legislation, please ask for a review by following our complaints process; details can be found at this link http://www.kent.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/about-the-council/contact-us/complaints-procedure.htm#foi on our website. Please quote reference FOI/08/698.

Best regards

Subject: Freedom of Information request - Free Masons / Councillors Occupations

     Dear Sir or Madam,

Are county or district councillors required to state whether or not they are members of the Free Masons?

     Please name all members

Is this a requirement on their declarations of interest form?

Are all councillors required to state their occupation or if they dont work and what is the penalty for not complying?

     Yours faithfully,

     S Smith
