Dear Mr Horton
I am writing in response to your enquiry under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA)
reference FOI/15/06/05.
You requested the following information:
On this page of your website you ask members of the public to submit details of PADs to
your email so that they can be added to the CAD system.
www.secamb.nhs.uk/our_services/community_first_responders/pad_sites.aspx
I would like to request the following information about each of the PADs that you have on
your system:
1 - The precise location or address where it is located
2- Whether it is internal or placed on an outside wall
3- The hours of the day that it is available
4- Whether it is locked or unlocked, either with a key or a code
5- The make & model of the AED
6- The date of which it was installed
Due to the following reasons we are not in a position to respond to this FOI as fully as requested.
Chairman: Tony Thorne Chief Executive: Paul Sutton
1. We have over 2,100 PAD (Public Access Defibrillator) sites on our records. The status of PAD
sites can change daily; new sites are added to our record and some sites may be temporarily
withdrawn for a variety of reasons. The information shared would only be accurate as at the date
and time it was generated.
2. The location of PAD sites is considered subject to the exemption under s43(2) Commercial
Interest. There is a need to withhold information that would prejudice the commercial interest of the
Trust and/ or third parties. In assessing the public interest, the Trust takes the view that this would
be the case in this instance. The Trust considers that this information, in conjunction with other
information that might already or will be in the public domain, could lead to the commercial interests
of the Trust together with the companies we use being adversely affected.
3. I regret to advise that we cannot provide any further information as requested on the grounds of
the exemption contained within s.12 of the FOIA. To retrieve the information would necessitate
manually searching through all the information held on PADs on our database. This would exceed
the appropriate limit of 18 hours as set down in the guidance on the application of the Freedom of
Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees).
We can however share the following:
Number of PAD sites we are aware of – over 2,100
Number of PADs situated internally – 1520
Number that are accessible 24 / 7 – 736
Number of PAD sites which are in locked housing units – 96
There are several types of AEDs at PAD sites within our region and they include –G3, G5, Zoll,
Lifepak, Defibtech Lifeline & View, Phillips Heartstart & FR2, IPAD SP1
I hope you find this information helpful.
