FOI 11985 Homeless placed out of borough
Please tell me, for each of the financial years 2013/14 and 2014/15 to date, the
number of households with children of school age in the household to whom
you accepted a duty to accommodate under sections 188, 190, 193 or 200 of
the Housing Act 1996, which:
(a) were placed out of borough and within Greater London;
(b) were placed out of borough and outside Greater London.
The council periodically publishes data on the number of households
accommodated in temporary accommodation. These are broken down by the
receiving (host) borough as well as the type of accommodation. This data is
located here: http://www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/lgsl/651-
Ascertaining the number of households with children of school age would
require a manual review of each individual file. Based on just the households
relating to the first quarter of 2014/15, this would require checking 584 files, at
5 minutes per file, needing in excess of 48 hours. Similar amounts of time
would be required for each quarter of 2013/14.
The information for the second quarter of 2014/15 is held by the council with a
view to publication by the end of January 2015 and is therefore exempt from
release under section 22 of the Freedom of Information Act. This exemption is
subject to a public interest test. The council has considered the factors in
favour of release, and the factors against, and determined that, given the
publication of the data is imminent, the public interest is in favour of not
releasing this information at this moment in time.
This constitutes a refusal notice under the Freedom of Information Act.
