Simon,

Two things!

a) Jon (my B2) is happy with the reformulation, so you can push it back out to Clarissa Waldron.

b) He also feels the question probably belongs with Def Sy, but I agree with you that we should wait until CW rephrases her question before we finally decide where it belongs.

Thanks again,

Ed

Hullo David,

We spoke! You’re happy to take Question 1 forward and suggest it look more like:

“What physical security breaches took place at Army, Navy or RAF-controlled locations within the area of London District, between 01 September 2011 and 31 September 2012?”

Would you mind confirming the question you’re going to ask, together with an estimate of how long it’ll take to respond?

Simon,

So, looking at this in more detail:

[P]lease could you release information pertaining to reaches of security at armed forces bases in from Sep 2011 - Sep 2012

This one’s pretty much going to be us, though really the question is poor: we’ll need to define “breaches of security” in a meaningful way. I would suggest we call this “What breaches of perimeter security took place at Defence establishments within the M25 between 01 September 2011 and 31 September 2012?” My feeling is that the answer is likely to be “nothing important”, but still.

[P]lease could you release information pertaining to explosive devices and acts of terrorism across that were prevented (but not publicised) between April 2012 and September 2012, in the run-up to, and duration of, the Olympic Games. To include dates, locations, numbers involved and action taken.

I would suggest that this is actually the Home Office’s problem, there must be someone over there who’s answered this sort of thing before. Equally “prevented (but not publicised)” is also bad phrasing. I suggest we treat this as something like “what UNCLASS information is available on acts of terrorism relating to London 2012 which we assess HMG to have prevented, between 01 April and 30 September 2012?” This is obviously likely to get the answer it deserves.

Ed,

Deadline is 30th April.

Can you please put together a response based on a search for recorded information, across areas within the department that may hold recorded information in scope of the Freedom of Information request listed below.

Given the possible implications for the security agencies, can you please engage early with Ben Taylor (cc`d) to ensure that they are both content with the final response and ensures that we get NSLG approval.

I enclose the template response to help you draft your response,  I can send you an example of a Public Interest Test separately should you require it..

If you consider that any other government departments may hold information in scope of the request, can you please advise who they might be so that their contacts can be added to the response.

Therefore, If you can send me the acknowledgement letter and the final response, I can get them endorsed by DMC, send them to the applicant from our Sec Pol Ops FOI multi user account and close the FOI request on e-case

Happy to discuss or help if you have any queries or you require any assistance in drafting the response

Many Thanks

Simon Skerritt
