2015/16 First year student marks

The request was refused by London School of Economics.

Dear London School of Economics,

The link to how the 'year one average' at LSE is calculated:
http://www.lse.ac.uk/intranet/students/r...

I am making an enquiry into the statistics of the 'year one average' on the following degree programmes:

1/ BA in Anthropology and Law
2/ BA in Social Anthropology
3/ BSc in Social Anthropology
4/ BSc in Economics
5/ BSc in Philosophy, Politics and Economics

Please make available statistics in relation to the number of students awarded in their 'year one average' first class honors (1), second upper class honors (2A), second lower class honors (2B), third class (3), pass (P) and fail (F).

Please also make available, if possible, statistics on the breakdown of classifications of all LLB in Laws students in each of the modules in their first year of study.

Yours faithfully,

A. R. Lieu

Dear A.R.Lieu,

I've contacted colleagues in the section of the LSE likely to hold this information. They have informed me that taking into account the first year students in academic year 2015/16, neither the year one average nor the classifications for the first year LLB students exist. The year one average for students is actually calculated in their third year of study, so does not exist yet. For the LLB students, due to the nature of the first year modules being compulsory, students are given either a pass or fail, not a classification, so we don't hold that information either.

We could provide the first year averages for students who were in the third year of their courses in 2015/16 and the pass/fail data for the LB students. Please let me know if you would like this data.

Dear LSE,

Thank you for your response.

If first-year marks on the LLB are only calculated in students' third year of study, I can confirm I no longer require information in relation to the first year marks achieved by students on the LLB in the 15/16 academic year.

Further to my request of 16 August 2016 please, however, release information in relation to the 'first year average' of students on the other programmes listed in this request in the 15/16 academic year.

I look forward to receiving the required information.

Yours sincerely,

A. R. Lieu

Dear LSE,

I would like to clarify that the information I am requesting concerns the marks of students in their first year of study who began their studies in the 15/16 academic year, rather than the first year marks of those who are graduating in the 15/16 academic year.

Yours sincerely,

A. R. Lieu

Dear A.R. Lieu,

We do not hold the first year averages of any of the first year students who were in the first year in 2015/16. This is not just the case for the LLB. We do hold and can provide the averages for students who were in the third year in 2015/16.
