Dear St Mary's University, Twickenham,

This only concerns students who rented on campus accommodation from St Mary's University.

The 1st April 2020 was the period of the coronavirus lockdown and government imposed restricted travel.

Did St Mary's have a policy in place that allowed students to return to the campus from their main residential homes to collect their belongings on the 1st April 2020?

Or was St Mary’s policy that students should remain in their main residential homes that they had returned to and St Mary’s University would contact them when government imposed travel restrictions were eased to collect their belongings?

Yours faithfully,

Emma Kegan

Dear St Mary's University, Twickenham,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of St Mary's University, Twickenham's handling of my FOI request '1st April 2020'.

The 1st of April 2020 was a date when government travel restrictions were in place. I have asked for details of St Mary's University policy in my FOI request. Can you please explain why this hasn't been answered in line with the law?

“This only concerns students who rented on-campus accommodation from St Mary's University.
“The 1st April 2020 was the period of the coronavirus lockdown and government imposed restricted travel.
“Did St Mary's have a policy in place that allowed students to return to the campus from their main residential homes to collect their belongings on the 1st April 2020?
“Or was St Mary’s policy that students should remain in their main residential homes that they had returned to and St Mary’s University would contact them when government imposed travel restrictions were eased to collect their belongings?”

Response
The University allowed all students who had decided to surrender their licence to leave their belongings in their halls of residence until it was possible to collect them. Those students who did not surrender their licence were able to remain in halls until the expiry of their licence and/or keep their belongings in their residence.

To simplify the question; was it lawful for St Mary's University to allow students who had surrendered their accommodation licence prior to the 1st April 2020 to return to collect their belongings on the 1st of April 2020 and did St Mary's have a policy or give instruction to students that they could return to the university site to collect their belongings on the 1st April 2020?

This FOI request remains unanswered.

Yours faithfully,

Emma Kegan
