Can you please provide the total cost that has been spent on both maintaining and
building new flood defences across the county in the last year that data is available?

Essex County Council contributes to three Regional Flood and Coastal Committees funding
to support the delivery of flood and coastal erosion risk management activities across the
region. These activities include asset replacement, essential maintenance and new projects
for communities at risk from all sources of flooding (rainfall, rivers and the sea). With regard
to the specific contributions made and whether they went towards maintaining or building
new defences in Essex, the Environment Agency (who administers the Regional Flood and
Coastal Committee) should be able to provide you with this information.
