Dear Jeff Smith

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request received 5 December 2013. You asked;

I ask for the legal basis on which a jobseeker, taking part in the Post Work Programme
Support Scheme,who is currently undertaking voluntary work of less than 30 hours a
week, can be mandated to increase their voluntary work to 30 hours a week.

There are schemes made under section 17A of the Jobseekers Act 1995, either under the
Jobseeker's Allowance (Mandatory Work Activity Scheme) Regulations 2011 or the
Jobseeker's Allowance (Schemes for Assisting Persons to Obtain Employment) Regulations
2013, whereby claimants may be mandated to participate in employment schemes which
involve work placements of 30 hours a week. These work placements may be in the voluntary
and community sector.
If you have any queries about this letter please contact me quoting the reference number
above.
Yours sincerely,
