Dear Mr Goss
Freedom Of Information Request: 0557-13
Thank you for your request for information which we received on 11 June 2013 pertaining to
the extradition of Syed Talha Ahsan.
We wrote to you on 26 November in which we estimated it would take a further 20 days to
deal with your request with a promise to write again by 24 December to update you on how
the matter was progressing.
Unfortunately, we are still not in a position to provide a substantive response. This is a result
of the careful consideration that is required around where the public interest lies in relation to
a Section 27 exemption (International Relations).
I can assure you that we are actively looking to progress the matter. We estimate that it will
take up to an additional 20 working days to deal with your request. Therefore, we plan to
have a substantive response with you by 24 January 2014.
The FOI Act obliges us to respond to requests promptly and in any case no later than 20
working days after receiving your request. However, when a qualified exemption applies to
the information, and the public interest test is engaged, the Act allows the time for response
to be longer than 20 working days, with a full response being provided within such time as is
reasonable in all circumstances of the case. We do, of course, aim to make all decisions
within 20 working days, including in cases where we need to consider where the public
interest lies in respect of a request for exempt information.
If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to
make a complaint or request a review of our decision, you should write to The FOI and DPA
Team at Room K4.10-13, King Charles Street, London SW1A 2AH. Email: foi-
xxx.xxx@xxx.xxx.xx. Please note any request for an internal review must be submitted
within 40 working days from the date our response was issued.
If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may apply directly to the
Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a
decision unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by the FCO. The
ICO can be contacted at:

Please contact us if you have any queries about this letter.
Yours sincerely,
