Dear Mr Alexander,
Freedom of Information Request – RFI20130268
Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) received on 20
February 2013, seeking the following information: Can you please let me know the total amount spent by the BBC on biscuits for the past five years (from 2007-
If it would take too long and cost too much to find this information out, could you please let me have details of
the spending on biscuits for 2011 and 2012.
Could you also please provide details of the most popular biscuits bought in by the BBC.
Also could you let me know how many toilet rolls the BBC has purchased for the same time period - again, for
2011 and 2012 if the five year figure is unavailable.
In response to your first question, under section 1(1) of the Act, I can confirm that the BBC does not
hold this information. In-house hospitality at the BBC is provided through facilities management
contracts. Any spend on biscuits alone is not held as the charging for hospitality to that level of detail
is not recorded by our suppliers. In any case, the BBC’s hospitality menus no longer offer biscuits in
London. In the English Regions and Northern Ireland, biscuits are not offered as part of the
refreshment package but can be specifically requested.
In relation to your question about toilet rolls, under section 1(1) of the Act I can confirm that the
BBC does not hold this information. Cleaning in BBC buildings is covered by our facilities management
contracts. The BBC outsources its facilities management to external providers for which we pay a
fixed annual fee. Cleaning is covered in this charge. In turn, our providers outsource cleaning to their
own suppliers and pay a fixed fee. Consumables and toilet rolls are included in this cost. I can confirm
the BBC does not have a record of how many toilet rolls have been purchased.
