15000 Fatherless "Skype Children " Guardian Report of Today

Children's Commissioner for England did not have the information requested.

Dear Children’s Commissioner for England,
In the above mentioned report it states that 15000 children are fatherless due to immigration rules. Can you tell me how many of those children are supported wholly or in part by their absent perent?

Yours faithfully,

G Taylor

Children's Commissioner for England

Thank you for your email. This is an automatic acknowledgement to let you know we have received it.

We receive a large number of letters and emails including invitations, requests for information, advice and assistance and marketing material. We read all of them and reply if it is appropriate for us to do so.

If your email is a request for advice or assistance, we will reply if we can help you. However, the law only allows us to address certain issues which are set out in the Children and Families Act 2014. The Act says we can provide advice and assistance only to children and young people who live away from home or who receive social care services, or adults representing them but it prevents us from taking on other individual cases. If you have told us you meet one of these criteria, we will forward your email to a member of our care and protection team and they will get in touch with you directly. The team can be reached by free phone on 0800 528 0731. If you do not fall within one of these groups we may reply to you, depending on our capacity to do so, but we are a fairly small organisation, so cannot guarantee a response.

We prioritise responses according to their urgency. If you have an urgent concern about a child protection issue, you should contact your local police or social services. Adults can also call the NSPCC child protection helpline on 0808 800 5000. Children can call Childline on 0800 1111.

Yours faithfully,

Children's Commissioner for England

Dear Mr Taylor,

Thank for your Freedom of Information request which we received on the 9th September 2015.

In our report on the impact of the new immigration rules on families we did not say that all the 15000 children affected by the new rules were fatherless, nor did we collect data on which of those who are fatherless receive support from their father. Therefore, I am afraid we are unable to tell you to what extent they are supported by the absent parent.

I have provided below links to the report which you may find of interest:
