Dear Mr Moffett,
Thank you for your request for information from the British Museum. Your request has been
dealt with in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (2000).
Your request, received on 9 January 2013, was:
Could you please confirm if the British Museum holds in it's [sic.]
possession/archives a letter from General Albert Pike to Italian
politician Giuseppe Mazzini dated 15th August 1871 and if so, has
it ever been on display at the British Museum?
This information is not held by the British Museum. The Museum does not hold manuscripts of
the type described in your request. These are held by the British Library which was formerly
part of the British Museum and has been a separate entity since 1972. I suggest therefore that
you address your request to the
British Library. This concludes the response to your request. I hope this information is helpful. If you are
dissatisfied with the response you have received and wish to make a complaint about how
your request has been handled you should write to me in the first instance. Your complaint will
be investigated by the Museum’s Director of Administration, or other senior member of staff
not involved in the handling of your original request, and you will receive a response within 20
working days of receipt.
If, having exhausted the internal review process, you are not content that your request has
been dealt with correctly, you have a further right of appeal to the Information Commissioner.
To make such an application, please write to:
