In relation to the Robert Francis Report published yesterday, I’ve been doing some work with CNOD to prepare for possible questions etc.  Many of the conclusions in the report (which makes for very grim reading) centre on ‘a failure to meet the challenge of caring for the elderly and the vulnerable’.  There are a number of mentions of the impact of dementia on the care of the patients themselves, on other patients on the ward, and relatives.  I think most of these will have been covered by Workstream 3 and come as no surprise (but the degree of neglect, I think will).  The report also has some strong comments to make about the skill mix between qualified and unqualified (and experienced) staff.  I’ve attached the relevant sections of the report that mention dementia directly in the attached document.  The full report is available at:
