Dear Alex Mawmill
Ref: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT REQUEST
Thank you for your email of 26 November 2012 requesting the following information
under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (
the Act):
Please provide the following information on as many recent IT spending control
cases as possible, starting with the most recently approved and working backwards,
until the resources permitted under FOI have been expended:
Name of Project
Sponsoring Department
Date submitted for spend control approval
Date approved
Value of project
Monthly savings expected post implementation
I must inform you that the Cabinet Office is unable to comply with your request.
Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act relieves public authorities of the duty to
comply with a request for information if the cost of dealing with it would exceed the
appropriate limit. The appropriate limit has been specified in regulations and for
central Government this is set at £600. This represents the estimated cost of one
person spending 3½ working days in determining whether the Department holds the
information, and locating, retrieving and extracting it.
The Act requires a public authority to make an estimate of the cost of compliance
before starting a search. The cost of compliance consists of the sum of the cost of
determining whether the information is held, locating it, retrieving it and extracting it.
If the estimate of these costs exceeds the appropriate limit, the public authority is not
obliged to comply with the request. The Act does not require a public authority to
search until the cost limit is reached.
Outside of the terms of the Act I can tell you that approved IT spending control cases
from this year will be published in the next financial year.
If you have any queries about this letter, please contact the FOI team. Please
remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.
If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request or
wish to request an internal review, you should write to:

issued.
If you are not content with the outcome of your internal review, you may apply directly
to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the Commissioner cannot
