Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act regarding the Treasures
of China Exhibition. Please find below our response to your to your questions.
Essex County Council has a 25 year relationship with Jiangsu Province in China which
involves education, trade and cultural exchange. This relationship enabled to ECC
approach Nanjing Museum through the Foreign Affairs Office and Department of Culture in
Jiangsu Province, and negotiate the loan of the Treasures of China exhibition on behalf of
Colchester and Ipswich Museum Service who organised and arranged the exhibition.
1. Number of ECC staff who have travelled to China in connection with the planning
and/or execution of the Treasures of China exhibition in Colchester.
One member of ECC staff travelled to China twice with staff from Colchester and
Ipswich Museum Service to negotiate the Treasures of China exhibition with the
Foreign Affairs Office and Department of Culture in Jiangsu.
2. The cost of all travel by staff in 1 above on such trips including , separately,
All costs of air travel, other travel, accommodation, meals etc for the ECC staff
member who went to China were paid for by Colchester & Ipswich Museum service.
