Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,

Specifically:
How many children from Wirral area sat the 2018 11+ test, by gender.
How many children from Wirral area, passed the 2018 11+ test, by gender.
For the September 2019 Year 7 admissions, how many children from schools outside the Wirral area, that successfully passed the 2018 11+ test, applied for places at selective secondary schools (that use the 11+ test in their selection process) in the Wirral area, by gender.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr Phillips,

Thank you for your recently submitted request, made under the freedom of
information act. Our response is as follows.

We cannot answer your request at this time as the selective testing
process for entry to secondary schools in September 2019 is still ongoing
and will not be completed until August 2019. You may wish to submit your
enquiry again at that time.

I trust this will assist you with your enquiries.

Best regards,

Dear Chelsea,

The selective testing process, for entry into schools in September 2019, ended when the 11+ results were sent to parents in October 2018.

Regardless of whether parents of children that did not pass the 11+ test are now appealing about admission to Wirral selective schools, that cannot affect the number of children that sat the 11+ test in 2018 or the pass / fail statistics (based on the results that were available in October 2018).

If the information you would potentially send in August 2019 includes children that did not pass the 11+ test, but were successful on admission to selective schools after appeal, then that is not the information that I asked for.

Similarly, the other part of my request also relates to numbers of applicants for places, not numbers of successful applicants/admissions at conclusion of the appeal process.

Therefore, could I ask that you look again at my request for information because you must have the data I'm requesting. You could easily qualify whatever you send and say that this does not reflect final intakes based on appeals etc.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Phillips

Good afternoon Mr Philips,

It is incorrect to say that the selective test process has ended. Late tests take place throughout the year continue to do so, up until the end of the summer term in 2019. The selective testing process will not have completed until this point.

As you have redefined the parameters of your request, see response below..

Tests taken and outcome confirmed prior to 21st October 2018, in relation to Year 7 entry in September 2019 excluding all subsequent tests or Independent Assessment Board (IAB) decisions subsequent to this date. Data for non-Catholic grammar schools only. "Wirral" includes pupils attending a Wirral-located primary, junior or private school or Wirral-located home education at time of test and may not reflect residential location of pupil or current school attended. Reached standard includes those achieving the qualifying standardised score and those who did not achieve the qualifying standardised score but were deemed to have reached the standard by the IAB.

SatReached standard
Wirral Girls 695352
Wirral Boys687358

Number of applications received giving a non-Catholic Wirral-based grammar school as any ranked preference, from those reaching standard (see definition above) attending a non-Wirral school at time of test (see proviso above), by gender.

I trust this information assists with your enquiries.

You request will now be closed.
