Materials Fire Retardancy Standards
The following schedule of materials Fire Retardancy Standards must by
verified by each manufacturer and may be subject to independent
assessment during or after submission.
The current minimum LBSL Materials Fire Retardancy Standards for each
type of material used on a vehicle are: -
All GRP materials utilised interior and exterior, BS476 Class 1
This applies to interior and exterior components and both inner and
outer surfaces of the GRP. Front and rear body roof domes are
exempt from the Class 1 requirement on their outer surface only but
should achieve BS476 Class 2
Melamine Laminates (side or roof panels), BS476 Class 1
Plywood Flooring and any other wood utilised, BS476 Class 1 SSF
Floor covering, BS476 Class 1
Hand poles including coating, BS476 Class 1
Seat frames (ABS or Polycarbonate), UL94VO
Seat filling, BS5852 crib 7 with waver for spread of flame
Seat moquette, BS5852 Class 1 crib 7
Body Insulation, BS 476 Class 1
All ABS products (capping and finishing trims), UL94VO
Glazing gaskets, FMVSS 301
Light lenses (interior and exterior), BS476 Class 1Y
Assault screens, BS476 Class 1Y
Body and Floor insulation, BS476 Class 1
The above materials or treatment used to achieve the standard must be
capable of achieving the required standard when suitably cleaned or
maintained over the operational life of the bus.
Replacement components and their associated material must achieve the
original standard.
These requirements will be constantly reviewed and update as
technology and manufacturing capability develops. They may be
exceeded at any time.
