Dear Ms Gill,

You requested information on the following…………
The DWP has a communications unit that responds to written questions and letters from
Members of Parliament, can you send me a copy of any information logs you hold that
identify either:

1. The name of the MP that submitted the letters or questions
2. The topic or subject area of the MP letters or questions
3. Which sections of the DWP are or have been engaged with any responses to MPs.

In 2011, the Department for Work and Pensions received almost 25,000 letters from Members
of Parliament which were addressed to Ministers, or to Chief Executives or senior officials
within the Department’s agencies.

The Department does not hold any collated information logs which would show details of all
MPs who have sent in letters, the subject matter of those letters, and the sections of the
Department which may have been engaged in providing responses. Although the Department
does hold information falling within the description specified in your request, as individual case
data recorded by an in-house IT system, we estimate that the cost of complying with your
request would exceed the appropriate limit of £600. The appropriate limit has been specified in
regulations and for central Government it is set at £600. This represents the estimated cost of
one person spending 3½ working days in determining whether the Department holds the
information, and locating, retrieving and extracting the information. Under section 12 of the
Freedom of Information Act the Department is not obliged to comply with this part of your
request and we will not be processing it further.

The information logs the Department holds on Parliamentary Questions received since June
2011 are attached as a separate spreadsheet.

You also requested the following……………………
I would like a copy of any written responses the DWP has sent to
Sheila Gilmore MP for Edinburgh East, redacted as needed, on the

subject of your Youth Contract Work Experience scheme, Mandatory
Work Activity, the Work Programme and the Community Action
Programme and Sector Based Work Academies.

I only want information produced since June 2011.

A search of our electronic records has revealed that there has been one written
correspondence response to Sheila Gilmore MP since June 2011 that related to any of the
subject areas specified in your request. A redacted electronic copy of that response is attached
to this reply.

Details of the Parliamentary Questions tabled by Sheila Gilmore MP since June 2011 are also
attached.
If you have any queries about this letter please contact me quoting the reference number
above.
Yours sincerely,

DWP Central FoI Team
