Dear Canal & River Trust,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Canal & River Trust's handling of my FOI request 'Zander Removal From The Canal Network in Warwickshire'.

I am not happy with the response given for what is a simple request and, this information should be readily available and easy to obtain given that the size of the CRT organisation and the fact that you have to keep details accounts and records like any Limited Company & Charities have to.

Please can you respond appropriately and provide me with the information I have requested.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/z...

Yours faithfully,

Mick Newey

Information Request, Canal & River Trust

Dear Mr Newey,

I am writing to respond to your internal review request of 21st April 2021. We have dealt with your internal review under the Environmental Information Regulation 2004.

Unfortunately we do not officially record where Zander is electro fished in the canal. Records we are required to keep are introductions or stockings of any new fish. There are no requirements with regards to removals with the exception of having to apply for authorisation to use the equipment to remove the fish.

Our fisheries team have however managed to, from memory and communication, pull the below information:

North Stratford Canal. Lapworth junction north to Kings Norton junction. 2 days , March 2021.
Ashby Canal. Marston Junction (junction with the Coventry) to the terminus near Snarestone. (some of which is in Leicestershire) 4 days March 2021, 4 days winter 2020
Grand Union Canal Knowle Locks north west to Camp Hill Locks. 2 days winter 2020.

In regards to what happened to any zander removed, their disposal is a matter for our fisheries management contractor and the Trust do not hold any records regarding this. Most are incinerated, some of the larger ones may go to market, others are given away as food. In the current contract, we do not require our contractors to keep detailed records on a day by day basis. All we require is that they are disposed of legally

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request for an internal review, then you are able to contact the Information Commissioner by telephoning 0303 123 1113.

Kind regards,
Hannah
