Dear Kacey Montagu,

Freedom of Information Request F21-284

Thank you for your request for information as copied below. You have asked
for all documents/guidance provided to MPs and their staff on working from
home during the pandemic.

During the pandemic, access to the parliamentary estate has been limited
and some parliamentary proceedings have taken place virtually, meaning
that MPs and their staff have had to work remotely, often with new IT
equipment and software. We have accordingly provided advice and guidance
to MPs and their staff on these subjects. This has been provided in email
bulletins and on our internal intranet by various teams, such as the
Communications Team, the Parliamentary Digital Service, the Chamber and
Participation Team, the Select Committee Team and the Speaker’s Office.
Some guidance solely relates to working remotely, while other
communications provide updates on whether to work remotely amongst other
pandemic-related updates. To provide the information you have requested,
we would have to conduct a search for documents and guidance on working
remotely amongst these records, going back to the middle of March 2020.
Assuming for each team it takes six hours to retrieve and collate all of
information within the scope of your request, we estimate that this task
would take at least 30 working hours to complete.

Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) only requires the
House of Commons to comply with a request which would not exceed the
appropriate limit of £600. This represents the estimated cost of one
person spending 24 working hours in determining whether the House holds
the information, and locating, retrieving and extracting the information.

As your request exceeds this limit, it is refused. However, if you were to
make a new request for a narrower category of information, it may be that
we could comply, although we cannot guarantee that this will be the case.
For example, you could refine your request to ask only for advice and
guidance from a specific team, such as one of those listed above, or only
advice and guidance on specific subjects, such as whether to work remotely
or what digital resources are available for doing so.

You may, if dissatisfied with the handling of your request, complain to
the House of Commons. Alternatively, if you are dissatisfied with the
outcome of your request you may ask the House of Commons to conduct an
internal review of any decision regarding your request. Complaints or
requests for internal review should be addressed to: Information Rights
and Information Security Service, Research & Information Team, House of
Commons, London SW1A 0AA or [1][House of Commons request email]. Please ensure
that you specify the full reasons for your complaint or internal review
along with any arguments or points that you wish to make.

If you remain dissatisfied, you may appeal to the Information Commissioner
at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF,
[2]www.ico.org.uk.

Yours sincerely,
