Dear Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust,

As stated in previous FOI request, if Eput does not understand my request can Eput please contact me for clarification before responding?

1, TMS treatment requests made by Eput vary significantly depending on patient location in Essex, could Eput please explain in detail why this is the case?

I have added below Eput's own TMS data kindly provided on 22/03/2021

The number of TMS requests made by Eput clinicians
Basildon & Brentwood 13
Thurrock 5
Mid Essex 8
West Essex 2
Castle Point & Rochford 2
Southend 1
North East Essex 2

2, Why for example have Eput clinicians in the Southend area (with a large population)only referred 1 of Eputs patients to Eputs TMS service, when Eput clinicians in the Brentwood Basildon area who have referred 13 patients?

Yours faithfully,

iain

Dear Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust FOI,

To help clarify the information I am trying to get Eput to provide I have provided the following.

As TMS is an established and well-recognized safe and effective treatment for at least 50% of patients with depression. For example, TMS has NICE approval for treatment-resistant depression. Unfortunately, the United Kingdom has been a slow adopter of TMS as a treatment including the NHS.

Eput FOI kindly provided the following TMS data on 22-03-2021

Basildon & Brentwood 13 referals 12 funded
Thurrock 5 referals 5 funded
Mid Essex 8 referals 2 funded
West Essex 2 referals 0 funded
Castle Point & Rochford 2 referals 2 funded
Southend 1 referal 1 funded
North East Essex 2 referals 2 funded

The list above shows the different Essex areas covered by Eput.
The first figure after the area shows the number of referrals made by Eput clinicians for TMS in that area
The second figure after the area shows the number of referrals that have successfully received NHS funding in that area. The funding is determined by the separate NHS organizations the Essex CCGs.

My questions do not relate to the Eput TMS service.
My questions do not relate to the CCG's or the TMS funding outcomes they determine.

My questions have always related to the Eput clinicians in the different areas of Essex

1, Why therefore are Eput patients in certain areas of Essex (please see the list above) more likely to be referred for TMS when compared to other areas of Essex, please explain in detail?

2, Why have the Eput clinicians for example in the Basildon Brentwood area been much keener to refer their patients (in this case 13) for TMS, please explain in detail why this is the case?

3, Southend has a large population. So why for example have the Eput clinicians in the Southend area only referred 1 of their patients for TMS?

4, Regarding TMS as a possible treatment for Eput patients. Why have Eput clinicians in the following areas of West Essex, CastlePoint and Rochford, Southend, and North East Essex been referring very few of their Eput patients for TMS, please explain in detail?

Yours faithfully,
iain gordon
