Whole Body Vibration (W.B.V.)

Roedd y cais yn rhannol lwyddiannus.

Dear Health and Safety Executive,
Whole Body Vibration (W.B.V.) has been proven to have harmful affects over a period of time, depending on the intensity and duration of exposure to vibrations:-
1. What Measures are taken by the Health and Safety Executive to ensure that employees aren't subjected to harmful levels of vibration in the workplace?
2. What measures are taken by the Health and Safety Executive to ensure that people in their own homes aren't subjected to similar levels of vibration (e.g. from badly fitted or badly designed extractor fans in flats, which might also affect the quality of life of their neighbours)?

Yours faithfully,

Rob Heale

Dear Mr Heale

Freedom of Information Request Reference No: 201806073

Thank you for your request for information about:

Whole Body Vibration and the measures taken by the Health and Safety Executive to prevent harmful levels in the workplace

Your request was received on 5 June 2018 and I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act).

I can confirm that the HSE publishes guidance on our website at : http://www.hse.gov.uk/vibration/wbv/inde...

We also enforce the Vibration Regulations and when we inspect we can take enforcement action where breaches in the law are found. Enforcement action can range from issuing an improvement notice or prohibition notice through to prosecution for the most serious health and safety failings. HSE publishes details of our enforcement action on our website at http://www.hse.gov.uk/enforce/prosecutio... and the databases can be searched for cases and notices where the summary includes the test "whole body vibration". In order to assist I am providing a link to the search results for notices issued. In the last five years the following notices were served: http://www.hse.gov.uk/notices/notices/no... . There is also a further notice on the database of notices over five years old: http://www.hse.gov.uk/noticeshistory/not...

HSE enforces Health and Safety in the workplace. Noise and vibration in domestic premises would be a statutory nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act and would be a matter for the Environmental Health Department of your local council.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are unhappy with the decisions made by HSE you may ask for an internal review within two calendar months of the date of this letter by writing to me.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review you have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
