What is to happen to Lady Bennett Court, Longton once the residents are rehoused?
Dear Stoke on Trent City Council,
Re: Lady Bennett Court, California Street, Longton
The Sentinel this week reported the phased closure of Lady Bennett Court as part of wider development proposals for older person’s sheltered housing in the City.
“Stoke-on-Trent City Council is planning to close down five of its sheltered housing complexes – Doris Robinson Court in Meir, Lady Bennett Court in Longton, Newhouse Court in Abbey Hulton, Union Court in Hanley and Lily Gertrude Simister Court in Tunstall.
Together the schemes contain 149 flats for over-55s, of which 21 are currently empty, but council leaders say they no longer meet the needs of older people. A phased closure programme, which could see complexes shut down in 2021, is now being considered.”
Please can you answer the following questions:
1. Once the residents have moved out will Lady Bennett Court be demolished?
2. Will Lady Bennett Court be repurposed for use by the City Council? If so, to what purpose?
3. Will the building and grounds constituting Lady Bennet Court be sold to private speculators?
4. If Lady Bennett Court is demolished, will the land be used for a new development of social housing?
Yours faithfully,
Karen Carlin
