Dear Scottish Fire and Rescue Service,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service's handling of my FOI request 'West Lothian Fires'.

Most of the information I requested has not been given only information about animals has been given nothing at all about West Lothian Fires the title and main subject of my request.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/w...

Dear Ms Gardner

Thank you for your request for information.

Your request has been processed in accordance with Freedom of Information
(Scotland) Act 2002.

I refer to your request and attach herewith a copy of the Scottish Fire
and Rescue Service’s Fleet list and dates etc when appliances were out of
action for West Lothian for the last 5 years –

 1. Fleet list attached

 2. in order to provide you with that information, it would involve a
manual search of every appliance within the West Lothian area over the
last 5 years within the West Lothian area and we regard this as
involving a disproportionate amount of effort to provide you with a
minimal amount of information.

Consequently, although your request has been considered, Section 12 of the

to comply in this instance – Excessive cost of compliance.

Dear Ms Gardner

Freedom of Information Request

Thank you for your request for information.

Your request has been processed in accordance with Freedom of Information
(Scotland) Act 2002.

I refer to your request and attach herewith a copy of the Scottish Fire
and Rescue Service’s incidents for ‘garden fires’ for West Lothian for the
last 5 years –

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Analyst has advised that the
requested information - Fires in the gardens of homes - please let us know
the reason for you attending such as the fire was not being supervised by
any adults  etc – is not held therefore Section 17(1)(b) of Freedom of
Information (Scotland) Act 2002, notice that information not held is
applicable.

To explain, The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s (SFRS) statistics and
the content of incidents are updated and recorded by the Officer in Charge
(OIC) using the Department of Communities & Local Government Incident
Recording System (DCLGIRS) based on their opinion of the ‘most likely
cause’ of the fire.  The information recorded is then used by the Home
Office to collate all the UK’s Fire & Rescue Services Fire Statistics.
Within the DCLGIRS it records the type of property on fire and not where
the fire is located.   Fires in ‘gardens of homes’ could include many
property types and we have no way of knowing from the address alone if
they occurred in a garden.

In line with the terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002,
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has in place a procedure by which a
review of the way in which we handle requests for information can be
carried out.  If you are dissatisfied by the way Scottish Fire and Rescue
