Dear P Smith,
Thank you for contacting the Canal & River Trust with your request for information. The Trust has treated your request as a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Unfortunately we do not exactly hold any reports, guidance, procedure or recommendations for action written/part written or edited by Canal & River Trust 's Welfare Officer regarding the welfare of boat owners, especially vulnerable liveaboard boat owners, whose boats may be at risk of seizure by the Trust under Section 8 of the British Waterways Act 1983 and/or Section 13 of the British Waterways Act 1971 following a Court order.
Canal and River Trust do offer guidance but we don’t have any formal procedures as all situations may differ. Canal & River Trust provides guidance on our website https://gbr01.safelinks.protection.outlo... and we provide a lot of in-person support to boaters, vulnerable liveaboards or otherwise and will always try to avoid removal of boats, where reasonable and possible. Where we are removing boats, our BLCS teams will also signpost boaters to support, housing, benefit etc, where possible.
If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of this email and should be sent by email to [email address] or by post to Information Officer, Legal Department, Canal and River Trust, Aqua House, 20 Lionel Street, Birmingham, B3 1AQ. You are also able to contact the Information Commissioner by telephoning 0303 123 1113 although please note they would usually expect you to have gone through our internal review procedure before contacting them.
Kind Regards
