Dear Mr Mantle

I refer to your request for information, which is being dealt with under
the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (“the Regulations”),
received by us on 2nd March 2016 which reads as follows:

"Please can you tell me how much money is spent on the prevention of
disease through water since 2010"

I need you to clarify your request before I am able to respond fully.  The
reasons are set out below:

If your request relates to drinking water, delivering an uninterrupted
supply of safe, clean, high-quality drinking water is central to what we
do.  It underpins the public health and economy of the communities we
serve and is a fundamental expectation of our customers.  To achieve this,
we manage 65 water treatment works supplying over 800 million litres a day
to over 1.4 million households and businesses through a network of
reservoirs and 27,000 km of water mains.  There are a number of operations
and processes that ensure we deliver high-quality drinking water which can
include, for example, upgrading water treatment works.

We enclose a copy of our Annual Report and Accounts for 2015 to assist you
in understanding the different processes and operations and I refer you
particularly to page 29 onwards, for details on drinking water and then to
pages 100 onwards for details of financial statements.

It is unclear, however, whether your request purely relates to drinking
water or whether you are interested in bathing waters or shellfish waters
also, for which we may hold information.

I look forward to hearing from you with clarification of exactly what type
of information you require.  I will respond to your request within 20
working days of receiving the further particulars of your request, in
accordance with Regulation 9.  If you have any queries in the meantime,
please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,

Lucy Goodwin
