Dear Mr Bolton,

Enquiry Ref: 12748/2021

I write in connection with your request for information dated 22nd March 2021 and received by this office on that date. Below are the questions raised in your request and all of the information we have been able to retrieve.

Please provide any policies you hold in relation to the use of your vehicle fleet.
This includes but it not limited to; use, pre use checks, driver usage, driver responsibility etc.
a) We have made enquiries within the force and must advise you that Cleveland Police do not have such a policy. There is information available via the college of Policing APP Driver Training which makes reference to vehicle checks/safety
https://www.app.college.police.uk/app-co...

There is a routine maintenance check sheet which should be completed for each vehicle on a weekly basis. Once the form is completed is goes automatically to line supervisor. If there are faults which need highlighting to Fleet then this is recorded and Fleet automatically get the form with fault description. We can then either book the vehicle in to a workshop or give advice re further action/information. A copy of this document is attached for your information.

Please note any statistical data supplied in relation to Freedom of Information requests is a snapshot of data held at the time the request was received by the Freedom of Information office and is subject to constant change/updates.

The Cleveland Police response to your request is unique and it should be noted that Police Forces do not use generic systems or identical procedures to capture and record data therefore responses from Cleveland Police should not be used as a comparison with any other force response you receive.

If you are not satisfied with this response or any actions taken in dealing with your request you have the right to request an independent internal review of your case under our review procedure. The APP College of Policing guidance states that a request for internal review should be made within 20 working days of the date on this response or 40 working days if extenuating circumstances to account for the delay can be evidenced.

We have made every effort to ensure a response was provided within statutory deadlines, however due to current circumstances delays have been unavoidable. If your response was late we apologise for any inconvenience it may have caused and thank you for your patience. If we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact this office.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Cleveland Police,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Cleveland Police's handling of my FOI request 'Vehicles'.

I do not believe that as a police force you do not hold policies about your fleet and it’s use.

Further more, as a police service, your ability to respond to incidents is paramount and yet to not have a policy on how officers can respond in a vehicle seems absurd.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/v...
